ALL ANOINTING
As told by Peter G. Williams
The Story of an almost forgotten Street Preacher.
"People are learning more and more about less and less till Finally, they know everything about nothing.!!!!!!" ~Arnold (Spike) Spiker
The most anointed man of God I have Ever seen or have heard of in the last hundred and something years told me that. His name was spiker. I was twenty he was seventy-one. He discipled me for a few years. He taught me the power of God. He raised the bar for me he set the standard, I think of him every day. My brother who's extremely intelligent, hated Christians, but told me that Spiker was the most sincere human being that he had ever met. Now coming out of my brother's mouth, that's a powerful statement; he brought people to Christ every day.
He was called when he was twenty-nine years old, God laid it on him. An audible voice came up out of his stomach and said go you through this land and preach the gospel and I will be with you till the end of time, he fell on his face in a park in Cincinnati, Ohio and laid there for three hours and couldn't move a finger. As people walked by, he was just frozen.
He told me that he backslid till he was thirty-six. Every time he drank a beer, he knew if God took his life that he would go straight to hell. He couldn't stand the conviction any longer. He went down to the street corner and he started to preach, but you couldn't hear his words, he was so timid, he felt ashamed. He walked away and said, “I'll never do this again, I made a mockery of God.” As he walked down the street, a man came from the other direction from several blocks away. It took minutes and minutes for them to finally cross each other. And he had tears in his eyes and he said thank you. Spiker said, where were you? He said? I was in that motel three or four blocks away on the 4th floor I heard every word you said. God showed him that he was indeed called. That was a miracle he carried his voice all the way down the street.
Then Spiker said, “by God, if God, be for you who can be against you!” and he went out and preached more boldly than any man I have ever seen or heard of. He was thrown in every jail in every major city for preaching the gospel on the street and God released him within twenty minutes and got him right out of jail and put him right back on the street. Everybody loved him. They knew there was something so sincere that they had never seen before. I've got tears in my eyes right now just telling you this, he changed my life; he raised the bar. I can't wait to see him again. There's so much more I could tell you. He cried out and prayed audibly from 12 o'clock till 6 in the morning. Every night for people who weren't saved that he met that day. I'd never seen anything like it.
Arnold Spiker, we just called him Spike. You're not going to believe everything else I can tell you. There was a reason why God put me around that man. God took away the TV and the radio out of his life in 1967. He loved D.L. Moody and Billy Sunday. His prayers were so powerful and so loud. You could hear Him down the street and he'd never let me leave without praying like that. Some of the neighbors complained.
That came out of me today. God did a powerful thing today, and I always walk away just amazed at what happened. I don't like to talk about this because it sounds boisterous. But there's a boldness that has come over me since Spiker. I'm outspoken in checkout lanes and grocery stores anywhere, everywhere! I speak up so people can hear me. Well, that's a boldness that comes straight from God. I had a preacher tell me in the gym one time. He said when he comes into the gym, he pulls his hoodie up and he gets real quiet and he's a preacher. He says, but you on the other hand speak out real loud, and let everybody in the gym hear you. He took notice of it.
The Power of God
Spike taught me the power of God. He said son in the last days they'll preach the power of God in one hand and deny him in the other. He had six major heart attacks in Buena Park, California, he got on the bus every morning and went to East L.A. thirty miles away. And preached the gospel on the street and came in at sunset every day. He looked like WC Fields with a golfing hat on and he had a big smile on his face. He'd raise up his right hand and twisted to the right a little bit and smile. He came back walking very slowly down the street. Because of his heart condition, they wanted to put a pacemaker in but he told the doctors, “When the Lord gets ready to take me, he'll take me, I'm not gonna do that.” And then he tells the doctors, “I love you, fellows.” And they'd say, “We love you too, Spike.” Sitting up in bed witnessing to the guy beside him.
So, I went with him one time to East L.A, there were Hispanics that couldn't speak English. I was standing there on a street corner with tracks in my hand, then Spiker would drop his head put his hand to his head and pray then all of a sudden, he would run back-and-forth 30 feet preaching the gospel. He couldn't do that physically. He didn't have the strength that was an anointing. Mexicans that couldn't speak English understood what he was saying started to cry, came up to him and repented, and he prayed for them. I loved Spiker, God used him and it changed my life forever.
I'll try to say this tastefully, but because of this experience of this type of anointing, I see right through preachers. I know instantly the minute I walk in the door, he raised the bar. Jesus was more real to Spiker than any man I've ever known. If we get talking about the world a little bit too much, he would lift his head up, look up to the ceiling as if he was staring into Jesus's eyes. His eyes would water and he would say, “Father, forgive us, bring us back to you.”
“Open your mouth and I will fill it. I will be your confidence and I will be your countenance.” I always asked the Lord what do you want me to say? And sometimes he just tells me to shut up. I've had experiences for thirty minutes or an hour. Then he says now, but let me speak. Then he gives me a verse and I grab a Bible, for example, when I was in a bookstore opened it up and read what he tells me and everybody just reacts. “Wow, I've never heard it that way before.” or “I've never heard that before, that makes so much sense.”
One of Spikes sayings and that he used to say to me was: "People are learning more and more about less and less till Finally, they know everything about nothing.!!!!!!"
Hadn't seen a man of that kind of anointing since the 1800s. That's why Spiker admired DL moody so much. You see, he wouldn't read a bunch of books. Every time I was in Spiker's presence he was reading The King James Bible, he wore them out, he had it memorized. He could quote page after page after page.
5911 Fullerton Ave.
This is where Spiker lived, this is where I got saved; It didn't look like this. When he lived there, they'd gentrified it. My brother lived in the apartment right across from Spiker, second one down. I would be walking back from Taco Bell 12 o'clock at night with Taco Bell food and I would hear this man praying aloud from the bedroom window and I would scoot across the grass up to the window with my eyes wide open and listen to him, I'd never heard anything like it.
Then a few months later, the guy in my apartment complex said, “Hey! There's an old man over here and I'm gonna go over and play guitar for him” and I said, “you mean that guy that prays all night?” “Yeah!” We went over there and Spiker was listening to the music. He didn't like it, but he put up with it. And then he looked up to Jesus's eyes and he always prayed before speaking, then he said, “Would you like to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior and know that you're going to heaven?”
I said sure, then we got down on our knees. He put one hand on my back the other in the air and he started to pray and I started to sob profusely. Water was pouring from my eyes not dripping. I couldn't believe what was happening, it was coming up from my stomach. I left a puddle of tears on the linoleum floor about 15 inches circle about a quarter of an inch deep. I was in shock. Then we got up and I was just looking at him and he said for me to read my Bible, and then the adventure began. I Didn't like to read but I sure liked listening to Spike and hanging out with him.
Laughing and Crying
Me and spike were at Carl's Jr. sunny afternoon about 4 PM. Sitting at a booth by the window looking toward Artesia and beach. Three young women were sitting behind us at a booth and they were laughing and having a good time telling jokes. They worked up the street at Amway. Spiker enjoyed the laughter, he looked over my shoulder and he looked at me and he gave a big smile, then he went back to reading his Bible. They were still laughing, Spiker enjoyed it, then he leaned over my shoulder and he said some sort of a joke and they just roared.
This was that timing thing and wisdom that God gave him when to speak. And he got out of the chair. He went alongside their booth and sat in a chair. They were just laughing and he said another one and they just roared; maybe he said one more. They were laughing hysterically. Then he changed the theme. He started describing a man suffering and climbing up a street with a cross on his back and what they were doing to him and the scoffing and the suffering as he was headed to Calvary.
The Holy Spirit hit and all three of the girls started crying profusely. Then he prayed with them and they were still crying, then he came and set back down, smiled and looked up into Jesus's eyes and shook his head from side to side praising and worshiping Jesus. These girls had their hands to their faces and they were trembling as the tears ran down their cheeks. The power of God. I've never seen anybody do this. He had a tremendous anointing and humility and humbleness about him.
Conviction
He had all these stories that would bring so much conviction. There was these to young people going to revival and the Holy Spirit was convicting them and they rejected it. Then they got in their car and started driving down the highway and got in an auto accident and went off into eternity without Christ. He would say it in a way that would just get ahold of you.
He told the story of a rich old woman on her death bed. Her son was an alcoholic and on the streets for 40, 50 years. She had them find him. He came into her room with ragged clothes, smelly and she said, “I have one thing I want you to do, there's something I want you to see.” It was being exhibited in a museum and she wanted him to go down there and look at this. He hadn't seen her in 40, 50 years! So, he went to the museum. It was a famous painting, shown around the country. When he got to the museum he asked the person at the museum where it was. They took him down the hall and said it's in there. They opened the door and let him in and they shut the door. He came back 10-15 minutes later. It was a famous painting of the crucifixion of Christ. He was on his knees crying and said, “Why are they doing this to this man? Why are they hurting him?” And he was saved.
Possession
Another time, I was with Spike in the evening, a couple of my other friends were there with us listening to spike and he was teasing with one of the waitresses. They all loved him there. And there was a man about four booths away that was getting really angry and he was grumbling and groaning and it was getting quite serious. This man was possessed.
And after about 20 minutes or so Spiker got louder and louder and knew it was tearing that guy up and we're all watching this happen with our eyes wide open. Then, all of a sudden, that man leaped out of his chair and ran towards Spiker. He ran around and got right up on him and getting ready to strike him. Spiker turned and pointed his finger in his face and said I rebuke you, you devil in the name and the blood of Jesus Christ, the man's hands went up in the air. His mouth went wide open. His eyes went wide open and he turned and he ran out of the restaurant. And we all just went Wow.!!!!!!!
God’s Timing
We were there another time and Spiker looked at a man about 4 booths away. He looked up at the ceiling and prayed and he looked at me and blinked his eye and he waited. About 20 minutes later, God told him to speak. And real loud he said we have a wonderful God. And he continued to speak, and the man dropped his fork, then drop his head and got up and slowly walked out of the restaurant and walked by the window with his head down. Spiker looked at me and said God's convicting him. He's going to be saved. With a great big smile on his face.
Street Preaching to Jail Teaching
One time, back East Spiker was preaching on the streets and there was about thirty people, they were crying and repenting. Then two Catholic priests walked up with tears in their eyes and Spiker said, “would you like to be born again? Would you like to know Jesus?” And they nodded their heads and he prayed with them and they were saved.
Then the police showed up and said, “you can't do this.” He said, “I'm just telling them about Jesus.” They said come with us and they took him to jail. Spiker kept telling the police officers how much Jesus loved them. They put him in a jail cell and said, “if you don't shut up, we'll throw you in that other cell over there and those twenty men will tear you to pieces!” But Spiker just kept telling those cops how much Jesus loved them.
They said, “come on!” and they opened the door and grabbed him took him over to the other cell and threw him in and slammed the door behind him. Spiker said, “Excuse me fellas, I have something I want to tell you about Jesus. When the police officers came back twenty minutes later, Spiker was on the floor, all of the prisoners were gathered around him and he was sharing Jesus with them. They got frustrated and mad and said, “come on!” They took him before the judge. The judge said, “What is this man doing in here? Get him out of here!” Spiker always said that God would go before him and he would be released within twenty minutes.
Closing Thought
Spiker, always told me that in the last days they'll preach the power of God in one hand, and deny him in the other! He emphasized and taught me the power of God, which a lot of Christians have no idea about. And he always told me, “Son keep looking up.!!!
